World Reimagined

As a school, we are participating in the World Reimagined Project, a charity based scheme to raise the awareness of our joint historical, cultural and geographical links with countries within the Transatlantic 'Triangle of Unity'; Britain, West Africa and the West Indies. Year 8 students have been studying the Transatlantic Slave Trade from a variety of different subject perspectives.

In Geography, students studied the global climate crisis in this context, drafting letters to the Savannah International Academy in Ghana. Letters introduced our diverse local area and the climate obstacles we face, whilst inviting peers in Ghana to respond in the new year about the climate challenges they face. 14 finalised letters were sent to Ghana and we're eagerly anticipating their reply!

As part of the school's cooperative World Reimagined Project, Year 8 English students have been exploring how writers use narrative perspectives and poetry to examine identity. They completed homework tasks that involved interviewing family members about their family history and heritage. These interviews then informed their own identity poems.

In Creative Arts, Mr Wilson led Year 8 in designing visually stunning and thought-provoking globes on themes such as climate justice and civil rights activism. Artist in residence, Chidimma Ikegwuonu, spent a week with selected groups working through ideas and helping with the application of final designs. Five one metre diameter globes will go on display in Bradford Cathedral in January where student and staff representatives will attend an Open Ceremony, celebrating the creativity and collaboration of our young people.
