Pulse (Christian Union)
The Christian Heartbeat of Immanuel College
Pulse is a Christian group here at Immanuel who gather once a half term. Staff and students take part in our gatherings as we share in fellowship. Our group has been running since 2017 and started out as a small breakfast club, that shared food and prayer. These first steps helped to build the foundation for what pulse has become today: a great place for Christian students to gather, make Christian friends and learn more about The Bible.
As of today, there are over 60 students who attend Pulse and the ages range from years 7 through to 13. At our gatherings we discuss our shared faith, listen/sing along to worship songs and celebrate events in the Christian calendar such as Easter, Christmas, Lent and others. The highlight for us, is of course the cakes and hot chocolates!
Our Christian Union collectively chose the name Pulse because we are the Christian heartbeat of Immanuel College. We feel this name is appropriate as we hope to share our faith throughout the school. Since starting our group, our numbers have increased significantly and new people are joining regularly.
Throughout this year and last we have been focussing on the different encounters people of the bible had with Jesus. For example, last Easter we thought about how our negative thoughts and insecurities are nailed to the cross, as Jesus died for our sins. After this we considered how the resurrection can give us a sense of new life. In the last Lent gathering, we wrote down the things we would give up then prayed about them abd put them in an envelope and then opened them after Lent was finished to see how well we stuck to our goals.
Students feel that Pulse has strengthened their faith, created strong Christian friendships and helped them to apply parables to our everyday lives. Pulse has given students a reason to believe and trust in God.
