New Build Facilities
We have launched our 25th anniversary year with the grand opening of a brand-new, state-of-the-art post-16 building, highlighting our ongoing commitment to educational excellence and future-focused investment.
The celebration event, held on Friday, 11th July 2025, welcomed governors, trustees, staff, as well as leaders from across the BDAT family, local primary schools, and other distinguished guests from the wider community. Together, we reflected on Immanuel College’s 25-year journey and toured the newly completed post-16 extension, an inspiring symbol of continued growth and ambition.
The new facilities include six additional classrooms, two spacious, common-room-style working areas, and a dedicated canteen for post-16 students, all designed to significantly enhance the learning environment and student experience.
Sustainability was a core consideration in the building’s design. Features include a sedum green roof to improve insulation, reduce water run-off, and support biodiversity, as well as a 600W solar panel system providing up to 40% of the building’s electricity. The structure also benefits from high-performance cladding and 200mm of insulation, enhancing energy efficiency.
Guests enjoyed guided tours of the new spaces and a musical performance by talented Immanuel student Jude Nash. The event also featured speeches from key members of the school community, including Chair of Governors Denise Sterling, Headteacher Mr. Steve Mulligan, and The Venerable Dr. Andy Jolley, Archdeacon of Bradford.
As we look ahead, there is great excitement for September, when the new facilities will open to both existing Immanuel students and new post-16ers joining from across Leeds and Bradford.
Mr Steve Mulligan, Headteacher at Immanuel College, said:
“We’re incredibly excited to officially open this fantastic new facility, which reflects our commitment to providing an outstanding learning environment. Building on our strong track record of results, this extension will give our students the resources and space they need to continue achieving excellence for years to come.”
Carol Dewhurst OBE, Chief Executive Officer at Bradford Diocesan Academies Trust, added:
“The investment in the new, environmentally friendly post-16 block demonstrates Immanuel’s continued commitment to be able to offer excellent post-16 provision for students up to the age of 18. The new facilities will ensure we can continue to offer a wide range of subjects in an excellent learning environment supporting more students to get the very most from their post 16 learning experience. We look forward to welcoming our first cohort to the new block in September”.
